Once upon a time there lived two young women, half a world apart. One day one of them said, “I want to do a podcast about vampires.” And the other, who also liked vampires, replied, “Can we call ourselves The Bloodsucking Feminists?”
And so, a podcast was born.
In this minisode find out more about the podcast’s origins and schedule, how we got sucked into vamires, our favourites – as well as the answer to the ultimate question: would we take the bite?

When Ceilidh mentioned that she and a friend were starting a feminist vampire (a very cool combination!) podcast on Goodreads I asked for the title of the show so that I could find it, and she never had the time to respond; I thought that was it, until three days ago I absolutely randomly discovered this place. I guess some things are really just meant to be. xD Am downloading episodes 00 and 01 right now.
Thank you for downloading. I hope you enjoy the episodes. And don’t forget to enter our Dracula contest if you haven’t already.

I know! I know! The painting depicts two scantly-clad lesbian lovers kissing and fondling one another!

. . . Oops, that was in “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, wasn’t it? +_+

Joking aside, I’ve actually borrowed a copy of “Carmilla” from the local library, so I’ll see if I can discover for myself by actually reading it. 🙂 In any case, I live too far away from Scotland, New Zealand or North America in general for the prize to be sent here without a costly postage fee on your part, so while I hope I’ll get my answer right when I submit it, I also hope that someone else who’s geologically closer to you could actually win.
I’m about halfway through Episode 00 now, and may I just say that Ceilidh’s voice has never sounded better in a podcast before. Back when she was on Made of Fail (#40 & #74) or I Hate/Love Remakes her audio keeps getting a faint static interruption (while the other people’s don’t), while on Anglo-Filles (at least the ones I’d listened to so far) her voice sounds too distance and low, and I can’t just crank up the volume because then Reidan and Alina would be blaring enthusiastically in my ears. xD I’d be lying if I said I could understand everything the two of you are speaking in your respective accents (I learned to speak English in Ottawa and Toronto) but at least the voices are clear and loud and I may yet get used to it some day. 🙂
It’s a credit for a digital file so all you need is an audible account and an Internet download.
I missed the deadline on purpose because I’m not interested in the prize so much that i’d snatch it away from someone who’d love it more . . . So was the answer “A portrait likeness of Carmilla”?
Sorry, no. The answer was a “tapestry of Cleopatra holding an asp to her breast”.
So you’ve played VtM: Bloodlines… but have you played Vampire: The Masquerade RPG? 🙂
I recently read Prince Lestat and I gots some feeeeels, man. (Also, if you have not read it, my fave by Anne Rice is “Vittorio the Vampire”.)
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Holly Black’s “Coldest Girl in Coldtown”.
I wanted so hard to be Vampirella when I was in middle school, not even gonna lie. XD Hooray not knowing you’re not-straight!
For movies, the original “Let the Right One In”. For feminism reasons, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the original “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” movie, and generally how Buffy there and Buffy on TV do/do not stand up to today’s feminism needs. One I haven’t seen but that looks great is “Byzantium”, with Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan. Not sure how I feel about “Nadja”, but it might be interesting as well.
Great start, ladies. ^_^ I look forward to listening to the next one tomorrow.

While I’ve done some tabletopping, I’ve never had the chance to play WoD, Old or New. None of my friends were interested in it, which suuuucks. If I could find some locals willing to play I would totally be into that.
Let The Right One In (book and movies) is on the list, as is Byzantium. Buffy is something that has been covered in so many things re: feminism that it’s honestly rather low down on the list. Plenty of other people are talking about the problematic nature of Joss Whedon’s “feminism” and doing it very well indeed.
